Measuring language skills in the workplace

In cooperation with the Klubschule Migros, the ITT has developed test modules for the language levels A1-C1 for a reliable assessment of job-related German skills in the canton of Zurich.

In September 2021, the article Sprachliche Kompetenzen im Beruf messbar machen: Die „Deutscheinschätzung für Stellensuchende“ by board member Prof. Dr. Olaf Bärenfänger will be published in the 50th volume of the journal Fremdsprachen Lehren und Lernen (FLuL).

Fremdsprachen Lehren und Lernen (FLuL) publishes articles on research and teaching from all areas relevant to foreign language teaching and learning, as well as on foreign language teaching/learning in Germany and abroad. The second issue of 2021 (50th volume) focuses on the topic of “Job-Related Foreign Language Learning and Teaching”.

The article by Prof. Dr. Olaf Bärenfänger uses the example of the “Assessment of German for Job Seekers” of the Canton of Zurich to show how test construction can be guided by an empirical target group analysis as meaningful as possible and the influence an analysis of the language needs of this target group can have on test construction.
